Today's Hike

Today, I challenged myself to the most strenuous hike yet.  It took me 7 hours to complete. I hiked 6.6 miles one-way with an elevation gain of 2, 225 feet reaching a maximum elevation of 6,770ft.  The trail begins among tall aspen and winds through meadows of wildflowers and bear grass.  The trail climbs gently crossing many small streams. I had a visual of a glacier lake through much of the trail.  From the lake the trail knows nothing but uphill switchbacks as it makes the steep ascent to the Continental Divide. The trail crisscrosses cliff faces with gorgeous views.  Although many times I didn't dare look down as I was hugging the rock wall. At one point I knew I was high when I looked down and notice a herd of bighorn sheep below me.   I don't think I am up to taking this trail again but it did provide some spectacular scenery of the area.
