Today I took a 9 mile trail that reached a maximum elevation of 5,230 feet. It began in the tall cedars, progressed through deep underbrush, crossed over mountain streams, traversed over a rock field and ended at a glacier lake - a perfect place to catch my breath and have lunch.
This is why my son enjoys backpacking so much. He get to see scenery that normal people don't get to see.
